This is a troubleshooting guide on how to fix a Google Home that is now not responding or has become slow to respond. Say “Hey Google” to your speaker or display. Check if the LED dots on the top of your device spin or blink, indicating that it recognized the hotword. If you are on an Android device, you can go to app settings and select Google Home to find the ability to clear the app cache. This action can help prevent frequent app freezes or crashes.

Changing Wi-Fi Channel Options From Router

This one is the bane of Google Home aficionados everywhere because it stands in the way of getting a new speaker up and running. You'll plug in your new speaker, open the Google Home app on your phone and see a new speaker ready for setup. Factory reset isn't the only way to resolve communication problems with your Google smart speaker. There are a couple reasons why you might have trouble activating Google Home with your voice. For instance, if the speaker is placed near noisy appliances or obstructions, these objects and the noises they put off might interfere with the mic array in the Google Home. If they bring the ambient noise level in the room up too high, you may have to speak louder than normal to activate the speaker.

If you're just over it with Google Home, there are other smart speakers out there that might suit you better. If rebooting this way doesn’t fix the problem you’re having, unplug the power cord from the back of the Google Home and let it sit like that, unplugged, for 60 seconds. Plug the cord back in and wait another minute for it to fully power on, and then check to see if the problem goes away. If you opt for a factory reset you will erase all the user data from your device and rewind it to its factory settings. When you perform this action you can’t undo it, so think carefully before you do it.

Incorrect home location

However, the Google Home app is still alive and well, and the hub used to control all compatible smart devices. These tips should be able to work with Nest models also. Unplug the power cord from your speaker or display. Make sure it’s connected to the internet and on the same Wi-Fi network as your mobile device. If it still does not stay connected to the wifi, restart router and modem. Your Google Home may need a complete reset to default factory settings in order to fix the issue.

Reboot the speaker and see if it will play music correctly afterward. Check and make sure the Home’s mic is on — after all, it could have been accidentally turned off. It also helps to check the indicator light located on the speaker; four lights means the mic is off. Turning the mic back on is done using the button on the back of the speaker. The Google Home family, comprised of smart home devices from the Mountain View giant, was created with the purpose of simplifying certain aspects of our daily lives.

Music Doesn't Play

Performing a hardware reboot may also fix any glitchy behavior, so pull the plug and let the Google Home speaker power back on. When this is the case, the best option is to move the Google Home speaker away from those obstructions, the wall and other devices. Any other issue at this point should be directed toward Google. You can contact the Google Home support team to have them call you, or chat with a Google support specialist to instant message or email someone from the support team.

While Google is yet to acknowledge the issue, some users say that they tried changing their DNS and it made their Google Nest and Home more responsive than before. Some say that the device performs the action after a delay of seconds, which might prove really annoying if you are trying to turn on a light. Type the device name in the search results and follow prompts to connect it to Google Home. Switch the phone you're using the Google Home app on to airplane mode.

While not related to Chrome, DNS caches affect network connections. DNS allows the browser to find websites with URLs instead of IP addresses. It's best to clear it out, in case something's corrupted or something went wrong. Google Home and Nest owners said they tried resetting their devices but to no avail.

There is a mute button for the microphone on the back of the speaker, if the microphone is off, there will be four little yellow lights that will appear on the ring of the Google Home. To do so, launch the Google Home app on a connected device and selectDevicesin the upper-right corner. Select the Home device, tap the three dots in the upper-right corner, then selectSettings. If this sounds like a lot of work, unplug the Home device and leave it unplugged for roughly one minute before plugging it back in and reconnecting it. Check to see if location services are enabled for the Home app on your device. Sometimes the Home app needs this during setup .
